The July 2010 issue of Elle Canada Magazine we see a 28″ Setti used to shoot the cover and editorial, featuring fashion model Kori Richardson. Funny, the last time we spotted a mola used for an Elle Canada shoot was July 2009! Photographer John Van Der Schilden shot the images at S1 studios in Canada.

Recently we released the Mola FlxGrid for the 22″ Demi which are currently available for purchase from Adorama and B&H or directly from Mola. The Flxgrid white will be available mid August.
We are excited to announce the new 25 and 45 degree grids for all of Mola’s beauty dishes courtesy of HoneyGrids. HoneyGrids are the only polycarbonate grid that are CUSTOM made for Mola.
Like the FlxGrids we have extensively tested the HoneyGrids for their rigiditiy, mounting and ability to cope with high temperatures. The grids are created to fit snugly inside the recessed outer lip of the dish and secured with velcro fasteners. The grids have an aluminum channel around the grid which adds strength and protection to the edges.
We tested the 28″ Setti Silver + HoneyGrid combo with a Joker 800 from K 5600 HMI lighting to test for temperature handling. The heat and light generated from these units is substantially higher than the modelling lights you would find on studio strobes. The tubular polycarbonate construction had no problem taking the heat!
Shape Magazine recently shot the Victoria Secrets Angels; Miranda Kerr and Alessandra Ambrosio for their magazine. In the behind-the-scenes video we spot a 28″ Setti with diffusion sock used for the beach shoot. What better way to light 2 gorgeous supermodels than with a large Mola!
and the resulting photo can be found at the Shape website.
Canadian born Colin Anderson moved to Australia from a young age with his parents, studied advertising / design and later went on to pursue a career in photography. Although Colin considers himself a generalist, he would categorise his work as stylistic, conceptual and often narrative driven. His unique approach has taken him into the hands of big companies such as IBM, Microsoft, Panasonic, Canon, MTV, Time, Mastercard and Kodak to name a few.
Colin loves shooting with the 43.5″ Mola Mantti:
I’ve been shooting with the 43.5″ Mola Mantti for over a year now and just love the quality of the light. I’ve used it for editorial, advertising and corporate work which has included shooting everything from fashion to food. I’ve even used it while shooting HD footage on the Canon 5D2 (link below) . This worked out great as the client required stills and l was able to easily switch back and forth without having to change my lighting set up. Great time saver.
Alot of his work is created as photoshop composites, expertly blending in elements to fulfil his visions. It is great to see some creative use of the Mola Softlights like this!
for Cosmopolitan Magazine
Colin was kind enough to also share his lighting setups
in the shot above, Colin uses the mantti pointed straight up, under the model
and the video Colin talked about earlier. Mola’s are the perfect match for continuous lighting as well as strobe.
We spot a white 28″ Mola Setti in use for the Elle Magazine’s Make Better editorial shoot, featuring model / actor Brooklyn Decker. Photography by Elle photographer – Matthias Vriens McGrath. The setti was un-socked with the OPAL central defector. Below is a behind-the-scenes video from the shoot with final stills screengrabbed below. An excellent example of a high-fashion (ahem) editorial shoot.

LA Fashion / Beauty Photographer David Nguyen is back kicking some serious pixels, this time in the form of a short promo video + stills. This video gives a fantastic insight into David’s journey into photography, his approach to it and how he shoots on location. You can check out the previous video we blogged here.
In the below video David mentions Mola at around the 2:00 mark…
Ending the blog-drought with a few more updates, we’d like to introduce you to Richard Warren.
Richard Warren is an incredible New York fashion photographer based in NYC. His editorial and non-editorial client list reads like the who’s who of the fashion world, including Vogue, Bazaar, Cosmo, Glamour, GQ, Marie Claire etc!
Here is some examples of his work, utilising a gridded 22″ Mola Demi softlight.
We spot a 33″ Mola Euro in use by Toronto photographer, Chris Nicholls shooting for the Flare Magazine’s Fantasy Shoot. This was one of Flare’s biggest productions for a shoot and no attention to detail was spared! Brilliant stuff!
