Californian commercial photographer Tim Gleason of Tim Gleason Photography creates some stunning images with his Mola’s. Tim’s specialty is in tabletop product photography and his advertising photography has appeared in publications ranging from Time Magazine and Sports Illustrated to Architectural Digest.
these 4 images are taken with a white 33″ Mola Euro…
We initially came across Nick Dandalos’ stuninng work over at Modelmayhem. Nick is a London based fashion and glamour photographer with published work in a number of international men’s magazines.
Here are some his mola-lit shots:
In this gorgeous shot, Nick uses a clever technique of stacking 2 diffusers inside the Mola for a even softer centre-core of light. (We will discuss this technique in a later post) It was lit with a white 43.5″ Mola Mantti with stacked Opal + PAD diffusers, white sock and a fabric grid…
These other two shots were lit with a white 22″ Mola Demi with stacked Opal + PAD diffusers and a honeycomb grid…
We are excited to announce the following products to the Mola range;
Compression V2
After a long absence Mola re-introduces the Compression ring – speed ring mounting system called CompressionV2. CompressionV2 will be our standard speed ring mounting system starting in January 2010.
Now the quickest and easiest way of mounting a variety of speed rings (see mola-light.com), in steel or aluminum.
CompressionV2 works by applying equal pressure around the outside lip or body of the speed ring in conjunction with an adhesive gasket, which reduces spinning of a speed ring. The V2 attaches with four screws and does not interfere with the mounting screws for the rods, which hold your P.A.D., Opal glass or Lumiplex diffusers. This system will fit any Mola manufactured in the past 10 years and is also available as an upgrade kit with just the V2 ring, hardware and adhesive gasket.
The FLXGrid White is identical in cell size and thickness to our FLXGrid Black. The white polycarbonate grid allows for a unique combination of a grid and a diffuser in one product. Unlike a standard black grid that has a center core of light with a dramatic fall off, the white grid has a softer center core of light. The fall off is then softened creating a diffused, and truly unique quality of light.
Incredible wedding / fashion photographer Walter Malabehar Cantu (of Kaizen Photo) is hosting a seminar on wedding photography and lighting on the 30th of January 2010 at Calumet Chicago. Walter has previously been featured on our ‘Who’s Using‘ section of the main Mola Light website. The seminar deals with a number of different lighting styles, but he will also cover Mola products.
Celebrity photographer John Russo shoots Serena Williams with a Mola. Actual capture time was around 5 mins for the shot, the lighting setup beforehand around an hour. A brilliant example of being prepared for your clients. Serena’s response to the image captured? “The client loved the shot”

FLXGrid
Mola introduces the 22” FLXGrid for the 22″ Mola Demi. This custom made grid is made of a tough, flexible polycarbonate cell material. Unlike aluminum honeycomb, which is widely used for grids, this product lends itself to rigorous use in the studio and on location.
As each cell is tubular it is inherently more stable than traditional aluminum cell design and is less likely to collapse and does not crush like aluminum.
Specifically designed by Mola for the Demi, it fits into the grid lip and secures quickly with four Velcro tabs.
The new Mola FLXGrid will ship starting December 21st, 2009
A 28″ FLXGrid will also be available in early January 2010.
Somewhere in this video is a Mola… but I wasn’t really paying attention 🙂 Shoot is a behind-the-scenes video of Bianca Beauchamp’s 2009 Christmas shoot.
