Mola user: Michael Corsentino – self portrait

San Francisco based photographer, Michael Corsentino brings us a great setup for shooting your own headshot. Mike keeps it simple using a white background, one light modified with a white 22″ Mola Demi with diffusion sock and a curved reflector. Usually creating your own self portraits can be quite tricky, but Mike uses a wireless approach allowing him to fine-tune the camera / lighting from his posed position. (read more about that here)

and the fabulous result…

Mola user: Polina Osherov – Indiscretion

Polina Osherov is a commercial fashion & portrait photographer working out of Indianapolis, IN. She loves being a visual storyteller, creating tales of romance and heartbreak with her team using strong directional lighting that lends a cinematic quality to her work. In this shoot titled ‘Indiscretion’, Polina uses a white 22″ Mola Demi. We love the old film noir look she re-created to tell this story.

Mola user: Fiona Quinn – Tokyo Swan

Regular contributor Fiona Quinn from New Zealand brings us another gorgeous editorial titled, ‘Tokyo Swan’. Here she used the white 28″ Mola Setti for the photos and the last photo for the Wellington Style cover was with a white 22″ Mola Demi.

Fiona has been recently running some fashion and beauty workshops in New Zealand and some plans to bring them to Australia. You can find more about her workshops on her website here:

Mola users: Kat + Duck – Tarred & Feathered

We have had a number of amazing submissions recently, from previous featured photographers and some new photographers.

Today we introduce fashion and beauty photography team, Kat & Duck from Brooklyn, New York. They share with us a recent editorial they shot for Z!NK magazine titled ‘Tarred and Feathered’. In this shoot they used a white 22″ Mola demi with OPAL central deflector and a black grid.

Here are some of their stunning images, with the final inclusions in Z!NK at the end.

Mola user: Nelson Lai – Sloans shoot

Dipping back down-under, we say g’day to Sydney fashion photographer, Nelson Lai. Nelson brings us some lovely images from his recent photoshoot for Sloans, a high-end hair stylist in Sydney.

Nelson used two Mola’s to light these shots. The fill light was a white 28″ Mola Setti unsocked with OPAL central deflector and the main light being a white 22″ Mola Demi with white mola flxgrid.

Mola was the first to bring the white grid to the market. It offers a soft transition and diffusion together with the channeled characteristic of a traditional black grid.

Mola user: Jonathan Dear – Winter Portfolio build

Australian wedding photographer, Jonathan Dear brings us some lovely winter images (Australian winter currently) he lensed recently as part of a model’s portfolio build. All the following images were lit with the white 22″ mola demi with stacked central OPAL + PAD diffusers. Either the diffusion sock was used to get some really sort subtle lighting for fill or the white 22″ mola FLXgrid was used for some more angled light.

Mola user: Jonathan Dear – Dark Monsoon shoot

Australian wedding photographer, Jonathan Dear takes a break from his current busy season to shoot some personal fashion work as a collaboration, titled ‘Dark Monsoon’. It was shot in some local rainforest, adding smoke for visual effects and using his white 22″ mola demi (with stacked OPAL and PAD diffusers) as the main light.

“The mola demi really is my go-to location modifier. I can get a really soft diffused look with it, but I can also use my white mola flxgrid and get a harder look from it. Its size and portability really makes it just about the only modifier I use outdoors.”

Mola spotted: Andrej Pejic Fashion magazine cover shoot

In this behind-the-scenes video of Australian male model Andrej Pejic shooting for Fashion Magazine, we spot a 22″ Mola Demi being used. It’s a white Demi with stacked PAD and Opal diffusers with the Vented Light Weight Diffuser, lit with the Profoto ProDaylight 800w HMI continuous light. The combination of continuous light and Mola Softlights means you can shoot seamlessly between stills and video without compromising on your light quality.

Shot at S1 Studios in Toronto, Canada by Moo King.

We’ll chat more about using continuous lighting and Mola in coming posts.

Mola user: Fiona Quinn – The Forest shoot

Fiona Quinn makes a trip over for Spring in Sydney, shooting the editorial ‘The Forest’, for the summer edition of M2 Women’s Magazine.

“I wanted this shoot to be soft and a little earthy – working with the natural light and subtle lighting – colours and textures and a natural environment.” says Fiona.

Fiona lights these portraits with a white 22″ Mola Demi with stacked PAD + OPAL diffusers and varying use of the diffusion sock. Once again we love her subtle use of Demi fill outdoors.
